Comfortable, Inviting Deck

An unused roof is transformed into a welcoming outdoor living space.

Designers' Challenge : Episode DSC-1413 -- More Projects »
David Howerton wants a spectacular roof deck to show off his beautiful San Francisco views. To create an inviting outdoor space, he would like to extend the deck the full length of his roof. He's looking for a designer who will incorporate an outdoor kitchen, a fireplace and a hot tub for relaxing and entertaining.

Before: Unused Space
David Howerton's three-bedroom condo was built in 1987 in the Portero Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, Calif. The small roof deck has fantastic views of Noe Valley and the Twin Peaks, but he wants to enclose the space to help decrease wind and traffic noise without obstructing the view. Since he loves to entertain and cook, he would like an outdoor kitchen with ample seating for a crowd.
