Tropical Flare
The original mirror above the fireplace was too large for the space, so design coordinator Ali Azhar uses a smaller mirror and adds a mosaic frame. Using a decorative wallpaper border as his guide, he traces the design he'll use for the tiles. He then lays contact paper sticky side up over the pattern and lays out his tile face down. This keeps the tiles in place, making it easier to flip over onto the frame. A bit of grout and the onyx and marble tiles create a tropical mosaic frame.

Design coordinator Kelly Edwards adds sophistication to the fireplace by encasing the area with stained wood panels. It defines the fireplace as an architectural feature and is an inexpensive way to completely change its look without having to change the mantel.

Follow these step-by-step instructions to update your fireplace.
