Edwards wants to use a floor runner to cut down on wear and tear on the hardwood floor between the house and deck. However, she chooses cork planks as an alternative to a rug or vinyl. The four 12- by 36-inch planks dovetail together, but the edges are unfinished, so she covers them with brown quilt binding (generally used for quilts and blankets). She staples the binding to the top of the planks and hot glues it to the bottom so the staples don't scratch the hardwood floors.
