Six months ago, Chicago residents Georgia and Nolan Burke purchased a condo to make room for their new baby. They love their new home, with its high ceilings, spacious layout and elegant hardwood floors, but they have a spare bedroom that is lacking style. The Design on a Dime team comes up with some funky ideas to clean up the clutter, cover the windows and create a cool, relaxing space.
Before: Multifunctional Mess
The Dilemma
This spare bedroom serves as a guest room, an office and a pass-through to the deck. Cheap, white paper blinds cover part of the sliding glass door to block the sun; they're functional but not very stylish. Cluttered bookcases are a catchall for everything from books to grilling tongs. Several pieces of colorful Mexican artwork the one indication of style in the room are lost in the clutter. For all available product information, click on the After photo of the room.
