A Cool Pool House

reDesign : Episode HRDN-209 -- More Projects »
Before: Dreary Pool House
Chris and Sarah want designer Kenneth Brown to add a breath of fresh air to their dark, dreary pool house (pictured right). The first step is changing the drab color palette, so Kenneth recommends painting the dark wood a cool, slate blue with a crisp white ceiling and trim. For the fireplace and the bar, he suggests lining both with pine wood and then painting them white to blend in with the ceiling and trim. In the middle of the room they'll float furniture with light-colored durable fabrics.

To create both an entertainment area and a storage space, he recommends installing a wood unit that will also be painted white to give the room a Cape Cod feel. To give the room personality, Kenneth recommends adding several pieces from Chris' sports memorabilia collection. And to keep the couple's son safe, Kenneth intends to create a gated play area. Sarah and Chris absolutely love the design Kenneth has come up with for the cool, breezy pool house and they can't wait to dive into the work.

After: Cool Pool House
Next: Soft Seats
It took seven months to transform Chris and Sarah's dark drab pool house into a bright, breezy hangout but after a lot of hard work and big rain delays the space is now a stunning retreat with a Cape Cod feel. Designer Kenneth Brown gave the pool house a cool, casual feel with a simple palette of blue and white painted wood, colorful accents and custom cabinets.
