A large dormer addition to this modest 1950s Cape Cod-style home will transform the look and feel of the property, both inside and out. The project included interior refurbishing as well as construction of a second story dormer addition. Throughout the existing house, new flooring was installed. New electrical lines were run, and new lighting was installed. Extensive wall demolition and relocation created an entirely new floor plan for the home.
The new front entrance, with columns, gabled roof and concrete foundation and steps, was completed. This project was duplicated at the side entrance of the home, creating a more dramatic look in both areas. The refurbished side area will become an entrance to a newly remodeled and extended kitchen area.
The living room ceilings and attic floors were demolished, exposing cathedral ceilings. Then the electrical work began.
A 400-lb parallel strand beam was installed. Then we saw an overview of the new foundation for the mudroom and the installation of subflooring on the second floor.
A rear stone wall was chipped away to make way for the new mudroom. Then a ridge vent was installed on the roof. Finally, a cinderblock wall went up for the new foundation in the mud room.
