Get some ideas for designing spaces for the wine enthusiast who likes to entertain. Designer Marsha Jones created a climate-controlled wine cellar in her client's home complete with tasting table and chairs. The entry is highlighted by ornate iron gates and a mural of Tuscany. Just outside, a circular mahogany bar complete with barstools, fridge and TV adds a contemporary and festive touch. More colorful murals of French bistro scenes surround the bar, and party tables are set up nearby to make this a useful space with great ideas for any entertaining wine lover.
Want to create your own wine-tasting space? Jones shares these tips:
Start with a theme. Wine lovers may want to re-create the beauty of an Italian villa with rustic furniture or an interesting wall treatment. Bar-hopping more your style? If so, transform a space into a Western saloon or Irish pub!
Plan for storage and proper refrigeration. Proper temperature and humidity is especially important in a wine cellar.
Make it comfortable. Incorporate comfortable, swiveling seats and foot rails into a bar and make sure there's at least room for two in the wine cellar-- no one should have to drink alone!
Take lighting into consideration. Steer towards soft light from low-wattage bulbs or simple candlelight to evoke a more intimate feeling.
