Industrial Cozy
For large-scale spaces, large-scale greenery is a nice addition. But be prepared to move a heavy pot if you want to maintain a healthy plant. Burbridge makes a mobile plant stand out of a drip tray, a precut disc of particleboard and four casters. Attach the board to the drip tray with an adhesive and screws to provide needed strength. Pre-drill holes into the particleboard for the casters. Hand-screw in the screws to avoid stripping out the holes. To keep the stand waterproof, apply aquarium sealant over the screws. Spray paint the stand to match the color of the room and you've got stylish, mobile home for greenery.

In addition to the plants, the window treatments are made out of painters' drip cloth, an inexpensive material that keeps with the industrial aesthetic of the warehouse loft. Baltzer rigs a reverse Roman shade that pulls up from the bottom of the windows. She makes two panels to keep it from being too bulky. Simple pocket hems created by folding the fabric in half and sewing a hem and then folding that in half again and sewing another seam, give the shades an informal swooping drape.
