Design Projects: TV Surround and Botanical Prints
The TV needs to be in the room, but that doesn't mean it can't be a part of the design. Simple molding adds to the room’s cottage style and helps to warm up a very modern and sterile piece of equipment. A simple, shallow box is constructed for the frame with holes in the bottom to accommodate the wires. Then crown molding is fastened around the edges of the frame and the entire piece is painted country white.

A series of botanical art adds some organic texture to the room. Foliage is gathered from the backyard and quickly dried in the microwave using silica gel. (Normally it takes about two weeks for the fresh leaves completely dry out. Silica gel absorbs the moisture in couple of minutes in the microwave. Follow the directions on the package.) The foliage is adhered to the mat and the Latin name of the foliage is written on the mat. The four prints are hung together for visual impact.
