After: Eco-Friendly Living Room
Wow, are the homeowners ever surprised to find that designer Vern Yip has revamped their living room. Like the yoga studio, eco-friendly bamboo flooring is installed and a new energy-efficient ceiling fan is hung. Silk, a semi-renewable resource is used in the drapes and bright-orange pillows. The new sofas are placed at an angle so the homeowners can enjoy the fireplace and watch TV. The sofas are also environmentally-friendly –– the hardwood frames were approved by the Forest Registry Initiative because no deforesting activities took place in the making of the product. In addition, the sofa cushions are filled with soy-based fibers. Accenting the sofas and the homeowners’ tables are mid-19th-century Chinese domestic antiques. Antiques are a wonderful way to be environmentally responsible because you are repurposing an already existing item.
