Design on a Dime : Episode DOD-2404 -- More Projects »
Joyce and Melvin Mendoza's family room is the most used room in the house. As their children grow older, they want a more sophisticated space for the adults. Designer Kahi Lee and design coordinators Spencer Anderson and Abraham Hopkins help the Mendozas reclaim their family room with a casual beach cottage style. There's still plenty of room for all the family members to play.

The Dilemma
With three kids and a dog, the Mendozas have an active household. Their family room is the biggest and busiest room in the house. It's also a room that is dominated by kids' toys and play areas. While the yellow wall color is bright and cheerful, the homeowners are ready for a change. Now that the kids are growing up, it's time for the room to catch up and become more adult-oriented and sophisticated.
