Before: Too Small to Party
Homeowner Laura Murphy has lived in her little one-bedroom bungalow for nearly three years and she still hasn’t had a house-warming party. The problem — she has no place to put her guests. The combination living and dining room is too small (pictured, right) and she doesn’t have enough seating. Murphy loves her 1928 cottage, but she needs some help decorating it so she can maximize her small space.

After: Bohemian Modern
With the help of host Joan Steffend, carpenter Jeff Meyer, and less than $500, designer Cy Winship transforms this small cottage living room into a modern, bohemian retreat.

The makeover starts by painting horizontal stripes on the long walls and solid colors on the side walls. To make the bright colors pop, Winship pairs them with neutral colors.
