Pat Taylor is a dance instructor without a clue how to choreograph her living room design. So the Design on a Dime team jazzes up the room by mixing contemporary pieces with Taylor's ethnic artwork and art deco architecture to give her the feeling of a Harlem brownstone. Custom-built furniture, additional shelving, an area rug and new window treatments and pillows tie together with Taylor's existing ethnic artwork for a colorful transformation and for under the $1,000 budget.
Before: Where's the Passion?
The Dilemma
Taylor has a passion for music, dance and fine art, but it's not evident in this ordinary room. She hasn't been able to blend her contemporary style and vibrant ethnic artwork with her home's charming art deco features, such as front bay windows, ornate fireplace and arched doorways. She has a storage problem with tons of books and CDs, which she wants to be able to see. She envisions a Harlem brownstone style that combines her home's period architecture with contemporary furnishings, while expressing her love of music and dance through texture, vibrancy and movement. For all available product information, click on the After photo of the room.
