After: Ducks in a Row
The railing is gone, and curtain panels soften the transition from the living room to the hallway. Bromstad focuses on collecting color throughout the room. The chocolate and red color scheme sets a warm, rich base. The shelving looks like a custom built-in but is really a combination of several self-assembled units. The cubes create a modern display for those rustic ducks and storage for auxiliary pieces, like colorful pillows and throws. Even rustic items get a graphic updated look when framed in a clean black square. If you have a collection of things, putting them en mass in a cohesive display really makes them into a feature, and you can unify it with a repeating color added. Always take the opportunity to intersperse color in a display.
