British Colonial Living Room

reDesign : Episode HRDN-407 -- More Projects »

Before: Dull and Sterile
Homeowners Lisa, Stuart and their two boys have been living in their condo for a few years, but it still looks as dull and sterile as the day they moved in. The living room (pictured, right) is filled with old furniture and lots of toys. They love the fireplace, but have only used it once. The carpet is so well worn that the stains even have stains. The couple wants to spiff the place up. The home is three blocks from the beach, so they'd like to incorporate a seaside feel into the room and fill it with natural colors and organic elements.

After: British Colonial Tropical
Lisa and Stuart wanted a British Colonial, tropical paradise that reflected their family's active, beachy personality. Kenneth achieved this sophisticated look by contrasting rich, dark woods and exotic textures. The room is set up for function as well as beauty. The large sofa gives the homeowners plenty of space to play with their kids as well as entertain guests. The new, dark hardwood floors add height to the room and are easy to keep clean. Tranquil blue walls brighten the space, while the subtle draperies soften the hard lines. The custom lamps add a personal touch, and the re-faced fireplace adds balance to the room and evens out the color palette with soothing earth tones.
