New York Loft-Style Attic

reDesign : Episode HRDN-313 -- More Projects »

Before: Junk-Filled Attic
Kristie and Bob have lived in their 1970s California rancher for four years. It was a great house for their family, but now that most of their kids are away at college, these almost empty-nesters are ready for some big changes. The home's attic space worked well first as a teen bedroom, then as a storage space (pictured, right). The couple now wants to turn it into a combination entertainment area and guest bedroom. They have a definite idea of what style the are looking for — they want the space to look and feel like a New York City loft.

After: NYC Sleek
Gone are the small dividing walls and unsightly closets in the former storage attic. In its place is a bright, spacious room that is ready for receiving guests. By using some eclectic and urban materials such as plywood floors, brick veneer and corrugated metal ceilings and then combining them with some traditional elements like a Louis XV chair, Kenneth created the unique family entertainment space that the homeowners have always wanted.
