Modern Industrial Living Room

Concrete, glass and fabric transform an ordinary living room into a modern industrial loft.

Design on a Dime : Episode DOD-1511 -- More Projects »
Alisa Ho has lived in her condo for three months and still has no idea how to decorate her living and dining rooms. She loves the open floor plan and would like to see a modern industrial design that brings the two rooms together. She does a lot of entertaining, so she is leaning toward an industrial warehouse design that is fitting for a loft space. She wants a minimalist look with clean lines and neutral colors. Designer Kristan Cunningham, along with design coordinators Dave Sheinkopf and Spencer Anderson, set out to turn around this uninspired space for less than $1,000.

Before: Bold Red But No Style
The Dilemma
Ho's condo has a just-moved-in feel and needs a designer's touch. She has a bold red sofa, chair and ottoman and an industrial modern TV and stand, but the dining table and chairs and ceiling fan above them don't fit the style. The white walls give the room a sterile feel, and the fireplace blends into the wall without a mantel. The wet bar is nice, except that it has no bar accessories.
