After: Intimate Setting
The existing seating group is moved in front of the fireplace, and a couple more side tables are added to create an intimate grouping. Design coordinator Charles Burbridge gives the boring brick fireplace a more contemporary stucco facelift to better fit with the marble hearth. Wicker baskets with batik fabric tops provide storage and tie in with the pillows on the sofa in the other sitting area. The thrift-store ottoman is recovered in a soft brown fabric and placed where it helps the two sitting areas to flow together. The reworked floor plan breaks up the oversize room into more intimate spaces, while creating common elements and flow between them.
