Before and After: Modern Living Room Redesign

Double Take : Episode HTAKE-208 -- More Projects »

Before: 1970s Ski Lodge
Homeowner Roby Polacek has never had a new piece of furniture; everything he has is either a vintage find or a hand-me-down. His living room (pictured, right) is a fun and eclectic mix of mismatched furniture that is starting to looked very dated. He has found a look that he would love for his living room. It is a clean, crisp modern design that suits his artistic sensibilities but not his budget––it cost over $31,000.

The Inspiration Room
This very fun take on modern design combines color and texture to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Designer Phyllis Bowie achieved the look by mixing contemporary furniture with unusually designed custom pieces. Curved lined furniture, a simple color scheme and punches of vibrant orange make for a mod, hip space with a very soft edge.

The Double Take team–makeover designer Michele Addey, budget shopper Halili Knox, and carpenter Jamie Schmitt combine their creative know-how to replicate this modern space for less than $2,600.
