Glen and Carolyn have very opposite viewpoints on color. Glen can be rather controlling when it comes to color choices, and Carolyn tends to compromise too much. With a new baby, they figure it is time to compromise to turn their white basement family room into a warm and relaxing theater space where the family can spend time together.

The couple has a classic cold, white, sterile basement family room, which desperately needs some color. The carpeting is too light, and the ceilings are too high. They have a big-screen TV and use the room primarily to watch movies. They have a couple of red movie-theater seats that have been in Glen's family for a long time, and they would like a movie-theater feel for the room.
