Throw Pillows

The luxurious pillows in the designer room are down-filled, dyed silk with bullion fringe. To get the same effect as the blue silk pillow, Michelle creates a cotton applique pillow. She starts by cutting out a design from a floral fabric. Using a two-sided, fusible interfacing, she irons the applique onto an 18 x 18-inch unstuffed square pillow. Next, the applique is buttonhole stitched to secure it to the fabric. The pillow is stuffed with a down insert, sewn up with fringe, and the job is complete. The small red pillows were sewn using upholstery fabric and bullion fringe. The large red pillows were purchased at a department store.

Tip: If you can't find the pattern you're looking for, making an applique is a great solution and a lot faster than embroidery or needlepoint.
