Red Living Room Makeover

Red makes a bold statement in this living room makeover.

Before: It's a common misconception to think that this small living room that doesn't get a lot of light can't handle a bold color. The purple couch is staying and isn't very exciting with the white walls.

After: Shades of red pulled from the rug liven up the space and keep it cozy. The beautiful moldings are highlighted with the daring wall color and the coordinating purple trim color. Red throw pillows tie the couch into the new color scheme.
Interior designer Alysa Weinstein listened when forecaster Ken Charbonneau, a long-time member of The Interiors Committee of The Color Association of the Unites States, predicted red as a hot color. When done right, red can dramatically change the way a room looks. Since it's a transparent color, don’t be surprised if it takes three or four coats to get the depth of color you desire.

Group interesting plates on a wall and fill a large vase with unexpected items such as fresh cranberries to add to a room's color palette.

This bland wooden armoire is given a chic new look with primer and black paint. Another easy way to add color to a room without breaking the bank is to change your lampshades.
