The new dining table looks old but was purchased new. The distressed finish helps to bridge the look with the true heirloom pieces.
When Jeanie and Scott Ribble bought their first home in Knoxville, Tennessee, they wanted it to be a comfortable and relaxing country space. Instead of buying only new furniture, they decided to mix and match antique pieces with a few brand-new furnishings.Today, their collection of antiques, family hand-me-downs and country accents makes a personal design statement that is truly their own.
  • Floral-print sofas are paired with a masculine leather chair in the living room. The dark background of the new Oriental rug tones down the ornate design to make it seem less feminine.
  • The rustic-looking armoire is a new piece that houses the electronics. It adds necessary height and creates a contrast against the white walls.
  • In another corner, dark-colored weathered shutters found on a farm are hinged together for a rustic screen. A wicker telephone table in front brings a natural touch to the space.
  • The dining room stays true to the Ribbles' eclectic country design with mix-and- match furnishings, new pieces and family heirlooms. Accents, like Scott's mom's child- size Windsor rocker, add a personal touch.
