The Problem
Warren and Denise would like their living room to have new furniture, but they want it to be comfortable and durable enough not only for themselves and their guests , but for their dog, Rio, as well. They want to enhance an architectural feature of their living room, install new window treatments and replace the wood floor--all with a budget of $20,000 for labor and materials.
The Designers
Bonnie Sachs, a feng shui consultant, has more than a decade of experience designing homes and businesses and has received several awards. Her plan is for a durable living room with yellow walls and dark fabrics ideal for the dog as well as the couple's guests.
Denise Foley, who has had her own business since 1987, specializes in everything from lighting design to custom furniture design. She envisions a colorful room bathed in light, with a touch of whimsy.
Shane Brown heads a successful antique business and travels worldwide in search of unique pieces for his clients. His vision for Warren and Denise's living room involves filling the space with shimmering fabrics and distinctive antiques.
The Choice
After choosing designer Bonnie Sachs, the plan for the living room is well underway . She enlists Warren and Denise to help pick out the perfect plants to accentuate the space. At the same time, new wood floors and painted walls are being finished . New furniture arrives and is ready to be arranged.
The Result
Sachs has transformed the space into one that echoes an elegant country retreat . She creatively faced the challenge that the couple presented, with warm colorful walls and tailored draperies over the windows in brilliant fabrics. New furniture and furnishings--a couch, tables, entertainment cabinet, chairs and pillows--are arranged carefully to her plan. The result is a comfortable, inviting space that Warren, Denise and Rio all love.
