See how a family room with an unusual shape was decorated to maximize space and comfort as a gathering spot. In new and old houses alike, it's not unusual to find rooms with unusual shape. Designer Chris Benson shares how to maximize the space in an unusually shaped room: - One of the walls is paneled completely in wood and added shelves and a rolling ladder give the illusion of additional height.
- Benson worked floor-to-ceiling around the room to continually draw the eye up, installing floor-to-ceiling drapes, housing the television in a floor-to-ceiling custom cabinet that mimics the library wall and grouping art high on walls.
- Furnishings are not excessive so as not to overcrowd the space and are grouped to allow room flow. The main seating area consists of a long couch and two armchairs in contrasting mossy green and soft red florals and plaids that are also picked up in the drapes. Other chairs in the same fabrics provide more seating and a simple continuous rug in a small cream and green check anchors the space without drawing attention.
Hide the TV
