The kitchen and living area of this great room were unconnected and crowded with large pieces of furniture.

Removing the couch and relocating some chairs and the dining table integrate the eating and living areas of the great room.
The design team of Jackie Davis and Julea Joseph from Interior Arrangement and Design Association rearrange furniture in a casual great room to better integrate the kitchen and living area.
  • The kitchen table is moved from a tiny kitchen area into the great room where it can accommodate more people when leaves are added.
  • Two club chairs are moved into the nook vacated by the table, bringing a conversation area near the cook.
  • An area rug brought into the living area offers some relief from wood floors and paneling.
  • The sofa is removed from the room to open up the space. It is replaced with a wooden rocker.
  • A brass and glass coffee table replaces a wood coffee table.
  • Brass and glass accents are ehcoed throughout the room with lamps and accessories.
  • Handpainted dishes are hung over the windows to soften the masculine feel of the room.
