Designer Angelo Surmelis kept the country feel and gave it an updated twist. The existing foundation stays intact and warmth is added to space by staining the cabinets a rich, mahogany brown. Gel stain is used on the cabinets –– it is great for vertical applications like cabinets because it won’t run. The team also mixes a sealer into the stain to give the cabinets some extra protection. When dry, white hardware is added to the cabinets to create an eye-catching, modern contrast.
