Homeowners John Kinnaman and Farhana Currimbhoy's kitchen features its original Formica countertops and dark cabinetry. They want it to reflect their international travels, so host Karen McAloon uses their favorite painting to anchor the kitchen's new look. With $50 and some paint, the kitchen takes on the lush colors of the tropics and a modern Brazilian style.

Before: Relic of the 1950s
Fomica countertops and dark cabinets make this kitchen feel like a time capsule. The homeowners have stripped the wallpaper but haven’t painted yet because they couldn't figure out how to choose a color and style for the room. What they really want is a colorful space with an international feel.
