Colorful Kitchen Makeover

Boring and bland turns into multicultural and colorful!

Decorating Cents : Episode DCT-2911 -- More Projects »

Before: Still the Same
Becky and Bill Louk’s kitchen looks the same as it did the day they moved in their home nine years ago (pictured, right). Becky says she has absolutely no confidence in her decorating ability, and Bill, he says he does the cooking, not the decorating. The couple would love to have some color in their bland-white kitchen and they could also use some more storage.

After: International Cozy
Next: Warm Walls
With the help of host Joan Steffend, carpenter Jeff Meyer, and less than $500, designer Barbara Sculati brings international color and flair to a once stark-white kitchen. Their first step is to update the cabinets. A fresh coat of white paint makes them look crisper. Then the tone of the makeover is set when beautiful stained-glass panels are adhered into the cabinet-door insets. New crystal hardware adds elegance and has the same sparkling sheen as the stained glass. Decorative tiles adhered to the backsplash provide a big impact of color and pattern.

Cabinets $148, hardware $94 and tiles $7
construction adhesive (for stained glass): The Home Depot - Liquid Nails LN990
stained glass: Gaytee Stained Glass - SP385-2 gray
