After: Open and Airy
This room has gone from dysfunctional to dynamic. It is now an open, traditional space with hints of modern elegance. Knocking down the wall between the kitchen and dining room was key to the transformation. Cool blue paint complements the appliances and new chocolate-glazed cherry Shaker cabinets as well as the warm earth-toned granite countertops and porcelain floor. A new flat-screen mounted underneath the cabinets replaces the TV that was on the counter before. Recessed lighting is dotted around the room, and sleek pendant lights hover over the new breakfast bar — now serving as the new pass-through — and the dining area. A one-of-a-kind wallpaper mural adds a splash of bold color and a fluid modern flair to the dining room, which features a new table and chairs topped by a bamboo ceiling fan that goes well with the cabinetry. The sliding glass doors were installed to bring in valuable natural light, and the rug anchors the space nicely.
