First-time homeowners Vanessa Brooks and Scott Ryan own a home that is stuck in the 1980s. Although they like some elements of the decade, the style just doesn't cut it for their kitchen and adjoining great room. Student designer Nicholas Liberatore takes a cue from a metal wall hanging and draws inspiration from the couple's past as owners of a coffee shop; he transforms the space into a coffee-house hangout.
