Homeowners Roy and Dorothy Christopher are both designers; Roy is an award-winning scenic designer and Dorothy is a set decorator, but they went to another expert to redo their kitchen. Kitchen designer DeWitt Beall faced some challenges with Roy and Dorothy's small but very long kitchen. He solved this problem by knocking down a wall and opening up the space to include a small seating area in front of the fireplace. High-tech appliances include a modular cooktop with a wok burner, grill and a unique ventilation system, integrated refrigerator and convection and conventional oven. Design features include a two-level kitchen island that has a work space and an eating space separated by an arc of granite, progressively taller and deeper wall-mounted cabinets with "earthquake" locks, Italian limestone backsplash and a checkerboard cork floor.
