Behind the Scenes

For the 23rd season of the show, the crew from This Old House took on their biggest challenge yet; a 10-month, $1.5 million renovation of a sprawling waterfront home in Manchester-by-the-Sea, Mass.

Just pull up to a job site and start filming? It's hardly that simple. Master carpenter Norm Abram, general contractor Tom Silva and the rest of the crew carefully plan out which projects are covered in each show.

When planning a project, the crew considers the renovation itself, the homeowner's budget, production values and other factors. Once they come up with a plan for a project, it's time to sell the homeowners on the idea.

Cameraman Steve D'Onofrio catches Abram in action.

Almost there! The crew enters the house for a final tour of the completed project.

Well, it took a lot of work but the This Old House crew has done it again, bringing a drab house back to the original Colonial Revival look it had when it was built in the late 19th century.
