Home stylist Rose Hicks has lived in Texas most of her life, and most of her life she's had a big, friendly country kitchen. After her husband passed away, though, she moved into a small arts-and-crafts cottage in Fredericksburg, Texas. Inside, the charming kitchen measures only 12-by-15 feet, yet it feels every bit as spacious as one twice that size. Using light-colored furniture, white walls and antique accessories, Hicks has created an inviting country kitchen.
- New oak flooring creates a warm backdrop for the white space.
- White cermaic tile covers the countertop and backsplash and a white porcelain sink adds to the country charm.
- The simple window treatments consist of vintage white linens hung on cafe rods.
- There are no traditional overhead cabinets surrounding the countertop. Hicks left the walls bare for pictures and country accents. Instead, a built-in hutch with glass doors provides the necessary storage for kitchen appliances and ample display space for cherished china.
- Four vintage medicine cabinets are grouped on a wall for visual interest and to hold country curios, like a crystal salt and pepper shaker collection.
