A ventilated skylight over the eating area adds light and fresh air.
Host Joan Kohn visits the remodeled kitchen of Elaine Mulroy, a real estate agent who understands the importance of a pretty kitchen when it comes to resale. She chose a classic white Italianate look for her Georgian Colonial home.
  • Traditional white cabinetry was used in the large kitchen. The paned glass panels on some of the cabinets echo the look of the home's windows' divided glass panels . Pewter hardware, a departure from traditional brass, gives a softer, Old World look .
  • One of the room's focal points is the black marble counter for the large center island.
  • A bay window was added at the sink. Since its depth makes window difficult to reach, the windows use an electronic device to open and close.
  • The room is designed for easy cleanup with two dishwashers, two sinks and disposals , two ovens and two wine coolers.
  • The stainless cooktop is another focal point in the room with is tumbled marble backsplash and zig-zag burners.
  • A wine center contains two under-counter wine coolers, counter space for wine-related books and lit shelving for displaying wine glasses.
  • A skylight over the eating area bathes the room with light and pulls the eye up.
  • The enclosed porch just off the kitchen has become a favorite eating area.
