To create the feel of a living room in the eating area, a banquette and upholstered chairs are used.
Host Joan Kohn takes a look at the new kitchen designed by Marlene Weiss for clients who tore down an imperfect house on the perfect lot and started from scratch. The new home has an open floor plan designed for entertaining, and a continuous flow is achieved throughout the connected rooms with a color palette of warm, inviting colors, used a little differently in each room.
  • In the kitchen, Weiss created a look of livable luxury using country French cabinets and a dark granite countertop.
  • Old World touches include wrought iron hardware and accents, a richly textured wall using a multiple-layer paint technique mimicking an old stucco wall, and a hand -painted mural over the six-burner commercial cook top.
  • An antique window arch frames the alcove in the breakfast area. It was restored , leaving the original gilding intact.
  • In the eating area, a banquette and upholstered chairs in deep colors were used to create the cozy feeling of a family room.
  • A custom designed chandelier over the table picks up the colors in the upholstery .
