The black and white elements and contemporary furnishings really complement the country style. The dark gray beams and new chandelier highlight the ceiling's height and architectural details. The bold rug expands the room, while the new window treatments soften the wall of blinds and add to the room's modern aesthetic.

The office equipment is streamlined and hidden away in a new desk. Minimizing the presence of the computer and bringing the focus back to dining gives the room a more harmonious feel, which in turn makes it seem larger. The barn-door-style cabinet doors and weathered finish on the desk blend beautifully with the rustic feel. Modern decorative storage hung above the country-looking desk is a perfect example of marrying two styles to create a contemporary-country approach.

Tip: If you are going to be using a lot (gallons) of the same paint color, especially if you’re making a dark color change, consider having your paint store tint the primer the same color as your paint. It won't be exactly the same because base whites between paints and primers can vary, but it can save a lot of time and money.
