The couple doesn't like their existing rug, and it doesn't match the new French decor. So, McAloon makes a "slipcover" for it. A sheet of canvas dropcloth is cut slightly bigger than the rug and is painted yellow. Then an ornate, red fleur de lis border is stenciled around the edge. A mocha glaze is applied with a rag and sponge for a mottled, antiqued look. The colors are then sealed with varnish. The painted canvas is laid on top of the old rug; the canvas edges are tucked under the rug edges, and then they are hand-stitched together.
