A dining room adds library to its list of functions in a one-day decorating attempt that worked beautifully.

Before: The homeowner would like this space to function as a library and dining room, which is why she has upholstered seating in it. Unfortunately, the cream fabric and cream walls don't create the warmth associated with a library.

After: Moving the hutch to this wall and angling the dining table divides the room into its two desired functions, but makes each one easily accessible. A faux leather technique on the lower portion of the walls sets the tone for a library/moody dining room.

Before: Another upholstered piece on the opposite wall prevents a conversation area from being formed and the large expanse of windows could use some softening.

After: The library is more apparent and inviting by moving the couches together, yet the new arrangement still makes it possible to use the dining table and hutch.
Hosts Matt Fox and Shari Hiller do the impossible, decorating in a day. They prove that with the proper plan and tools, it's possible to completely transform a room in just one day's time. A faux leather paint technique, new lighting, sewn draperies and accessories complete the design in this one-day dining room makeover.
