It's time to turn this dining room into a casually elegant space for dining and entertaining.

Before: Carrie and Tom Rooney haven't been able to entertain in their dining room with only a folding table and chairs. The space needs a sophisticated style to coordinate with the rest of the home, yet be durable enough for their four children.

After: Texture is added to the walls with neutral-toned stripes and dining table with rounded edges coordinates with the sideboard. Strategically placed lighting sets the mood for the room, while elegant panels and valances maximize the windows.
For five years, Carrie and Tom Rooney have lived in a five-bedroom colonial home. They love the quiet neighborhood, good schools and family-oriented New Jersey community that's perfect for them and their four children. The couple remodeled the kitchen and family room, but now it's time to bring the dining room up to par with the rest of the first floor. Since it's the focal point from the foyer and they have a large family they entertain often, the Rooneys are hoping a design professional can help them create the ultimate, casually elegant space they desire.

After careful consideration of three design plans, the couple decide that Tere Bresin's French Provincial design best encompasses their vision for the room. Bresin enhances the custom table with a sideboard buffet perfect for service and storage. The addition of crown molding gives the room a more distinguished and sophisticated look and the soft yellow color palette is enhanced by rich textures, fabrics and a distinct lighting plan. The homeowners also decide to expand their project by having Bresin redesign their foyer so that it flows with the new dining room. Using a budget of $25,000, Bresin creates an elegant yet family-friendly dining room. This combination of warm materials and rich textures produce a perfect space for entertaining family and friends.
