Before: This understated dining room leans toward a colonial Williamsburg look with the furniture and some pewter pieces, but the white walls and stark surfaces aren't making this centralized area very interesting.

After: Rich blue walls set the tone for an elegant dining experience with toile valances, beautiful tableware and traditional touches including wreaths and hurricanes over tapers.

Before: The view to the living room shows the open relationship between the two spaces so they need to flow from one to the other.

After: The daring wall color brings the dining room to life and still ties into the adjoining space. The use of white tableware keeps the look crisp and simple.
Host Matt Fox and Shari Hiller look to colonial Williamsburg for inspiration in a dining room. This particular space poses a challenge because it's such a thoroughfare so the design has to be simple yet complementary to the colonial style. With the addition of a new buffet, window treatments and a change in color scheme, the room reflects 18th-century style.
