Floral Centerpiece
Floral expert Dia Collins demonstrates how to add romance and elegance to tables with centerpieces.

Artichoke Rose

Materials:

floral foam
terra-cotta pot or other container
one bloom of a large, single rose
citrus leaves
bay leaves

Steps:

  1. Start by cutting floral foam to the size needed for the container. Soak the floral foam in water.

  2. Place the rose in the center of the floral foam and spread the petals a bit for a full look.

  3. Stick citrus and bay leaves one at a time around the rose in a flowering artichoke fashion.

Small Candle Centerpiece

Materials:

wine glass
transparent tape
any kind of baby's breath-type filler
table salt, gelatin crystals or sugar crystals
tea-light or small votive candle

Steps:

  1. Tape filler onto glass stem.

  2. Fill glass half-full with salt, gelatin or sugar.

  3. Place candle in center.

  4. Consider making more than one. A wine-glass set with different-colored fillers or crystals looks incredible in a group.

Floating Centerpiece

Materials:

large glass bowl
floating candles
camellias and small daisies

Steps:

  1. Fill the glass bowl half-full with water.

  2. Place floating candles (those specifically designed for buoyancy) and flowers on the water's surface, then surround the exterior base of the bowl with flowers.

Floral Centerpiece

Materials:

transparent tape
tall plastic cup
glass bowl
colored dry pasta or beans
fresh flowers

Steps:

  1. Place several pieces of tape across the top of the plastic cup in a tic-tac-toe fashion. This will provide slots to place the flower stems through.

  2. Position the cup in the center of the bowl and surround with beans or pasta. Stone pebbles or aquarium rocks also look great.

  3. Fill the plastic cup with water and your choice of fresh flowers.
