Before: Outgrown Their Rooms
Seven-year-old Anya has an old-fashioned bedroom (pictured, right) that doesn't reflect her interests. Her two-year-old sister Katie has outgrown her tiny bedroom. The parents have come up with a new solution to satisfy both girls. Katie is going to move to a bigger room and her old room will become an art space and playroom. Anya is staying put, but her new room will become an enchanted barnyard complete with a picket fence and butterflies.

After: Enchanted Garden
Designer Andrew Zill transformed Anya's room into an enchanted garden and Katie’s room is now a sunny playroom (click Next image). By repurposing materials and hand crafting many items, Zill was able to complete both rooms for less than $1,000. In Anya's room, the walls are painted sky blue then rolling hills, big fluffy clouds and barnyard scenery are added. A forest canopy is made from faux branches that have been treated with fireproof solution so they won’t melt or burn from the overhead light fixture. Flitting around the canopy are beautiful translucent butterflies, click on the Kid’s Room Project to see how they are made.
