Let your tween or teen use their sewing skills to create a skirt for an old desk.Materials
an old desk
ribbons - 7-inches long for ties
decorative fabric
muslin or other fabric to use for lining
sewing machine
scissors
matching thread
staple gun
Steps
1. Make the four panels: two for the front and two for the sides.
2. Measure the top of your desk: width, depth and height from the floor.
3. Cut the four panels according to your measurements, but add one inch to the width, and three inches to the height (for the seams). Cut along the grain.
4. Cut your lining material to the same dimensions.
5. Put the FINISHED FACES of your decorative fabric and lining fabric facing each other, and stitch around three sides of your panels leaving a ½-inch seam allowance. Leave the top edge open.
6. Trim the two corners diagonally across, outside the stitching. Turn the panels right side out and push the corners out so they are crisp.
7. Iron the fabric.
8. Place the open, edge of the panel (that is not sewn) upside-down along the top edge of the desk.
9. Position one ribbon in the center hanging down to the floor, and the other positioned centrally to come out the top. Staple ribbons in place.
10. Staple panel horizontally along the desk edge.
11. Repeat for each panel.
12. Roll your panels up and tie in place as needed to access seating and drawers!
