Before: Little Girls' Playroom
The Jerome family basement is filled with dolls, costumes and children’s games –– the perfect playroom for two 8-year-old girls. The problem is, the Jerome sisters, Diana and Rachel are now 12 and 14. They don’t want a little girls’ playroom (pictured, right), they want a cool hangout space where they can spend time with their friends, watch movies and do crafts. Their mom and dad, Elizabeth and Richard want a room that will grow with the girls over the next several years, all through high school.

After: Cool Teen Hangout
The messy kids’ basement is now a sophisticated hangout for the two sisters. Designer Keisha Gilchrist created the new teen-friendly den with a budget of $1,100. The girls got exactly what they wished for in the room –– a lounge area where they can chill out with the friends, their own craft area and a stage where they can perform Shakespearean sonnets or hold a fashion show. They even have a punching bag if they need to burn some excess energy.
