Home Classroom

Water, fire, air and earth make an elemental classroom!

Before: Need a Good Learning Environment
The four children of the Conrad family (Laurel, Madison, Jonathan and Ian) are all home schooled at the dining room table. It is not a very conducive spot for learning, the table gets crowded fast and there is no room to store books and papers. Parents, Dena and Kurt would like to turn their basement/TV room (pictured, right) into a full-time, inspiring classroom. Designer Chelsea Norton asked the kids what they’d like to see in their new classroom, they replied; a reading nook, disco ball, dinosaur land, art supplies, cotton candy machine, a cave and a volcano.

After: Four-Elements Classroom
Next: Fire and Air
The family’s new classroom celebrates all four classic elements: water, air, earth and fire. Each of the elements is represented on the four walls. The kids are happy because they got what they wished for (except the disco ball and cotton-candy machine!) The parents are happy because they got more storage and a stimulating learning environment in which to teach their kids. The total cost of the project was just over $1,000.
