Fort Wilderness
A two-level fort is constructed from plywood and 2 x 4s. The 2 x 4s are transformed into trees. Dowels are fastened to the sides for branches then they are given a bark covering when wrapped in burlap. Twigs are nailed to the side of the fort to serve as a screen and the ceiling is interlaced with green yarn to create a leafy canopy. There are two ways the kids can get to the fort’s upper level – the ladder or the trap door. An eye-bolt and rope are used to make a handle for the trap door. A bracket is fastened to the ceiling above the trap door then a pulley and rope are hung down from the bracket. A bucket tied to the end of the rope allows the children to pass toys and books between the floor and the platform.
