Before: Too Babyish
Homeowners Donna and Kelly Shantz are constantly kept on the go by their 5-year-old triplets — Aron, Bennett and Calvin. The boys share their own playroom where they enjoy playing with cars and trains (pictured, right). But, now that they are getting older and doing different things, the boys need the playroom to serve as a multipurpose area. The parents also think the baby-blue walls are too babyish; they’d like something more mature that the triplets can grow into. The boys have just one request — they want a desk.

After: Triple-Action Playroom
With the help of host Joan Steffend, carpenter Jeff Meyer, and less than $500, designer Kelli Kaufer creates a multipurpose playroom that the boys can enjoy for years to come. To avoid confusion, the parents decided years ago to give each boy their own color. So, all of Aron’s stuff is red, Bennett’s is blue and Calvin’s is green. Kaufer follows the triplet’s color scheme throughout the new playroom.
