Show host Sherry Ruggieri tells how to build better rooms for little girls--with thought not only about the present but also to the future--by following these design basics:
- Choose your colors.
- Look for personality.
- Aim to inspire.
Choose Your Colors
Color is one of the most powerful design elements available. It can create and enhance mood, light and tone quickly and dramatically, no matter what age group you're working with. Try paint, paper or even carpeting--in some of your little girl's favorite colors--and build a fun space you can both live with.
Look for Personality
Your daughter already has a personality of her own. Find out what she really likes and build a space based around them--from color to texture and furniture to photographs . You can make a room that not only reflects who she is but who she wants to be. And you want her to feel safe and comfortable in the environment or she won't spend much time in there.
Aim to Inspire
Childhood is a very creative time. With a little thought and planning, you can build a space that not only offers a good combination for sleep, study and entertainment but also inspires her dreams and encourages her talents. Remember, the more she contributes to the room, the more connected to the room she'll feel.
Designer's Secret
With little girls' rooms, you really have to pay attention to the bottom line: color and life, safety and durability, personality and inspiration. You can find all of these in the simplest of places.
