An old dresser bought at an estate sale has been sitting in the garage for ages. McAloon sees it as a perfect piece to create a TV cabinet for the guest room. Removing the upper drawers creates a nook for the television and the remaining bottom drawers provide handy storage. Hirsch applies a distressed paint treatment to soften the look of the cabinet and give it a more contemporary look. She applies each layer of paint with steel wool because she doesn't want 100% coverage. Having the wood grain show through the paint is what gives the piece an antique look. An application of brown wax completes the aged, yet updated treatment.
